TURTLES

We all love Turtles!

Unfortunately, the turtles are on the endangered list. Due to poaching lose, loss of beaches due to coastal erosion, and use still today of their shell, they are harder to find. Luckily there are conservation areas where you can go out and help local rangers track nesting and egg-laying, as well as areas where they are still thriving or as a protected species, doing well.

Each trip should bring you closer to a turtle so you can photograph and share with the rest of the world!

MANTA RAYS

The most graceful elegant creatures the undersea world perhaps has to offer, some growing to over 5 Meters in wingspan length. Some areas have cleaning stations where they literally line up and other come to areas on a migratory basis.

WHALE SHARKS

The largest type of shark in the ocean (as far as we know). They consume huge amounts of krill and are predatory. There are many opportunities to see these magnificent creatures, whether it be from a liveaboard boat or resort. However they do tend to be seasonal, and their numbers are dwindling, making it harder for us to spot them.

WHALES

Whales, the giants of the ocean. Nowadays it is becoming rarer to see these marine animals. In some areas, the population does seem to be increasing which is fantastic but still not as many as there was at the turn of the last century. Several companies offer whale snorkelling tours combined with reef diving. Most destinations will not allow diving close to whales to your safety and that it's hard to keep up with a whale (yes they swim fast but don't forget they also dive very deep).

SHARKS

As areas are being decimated by shark fishing it's becoming hard to find areas of breeding sharks. Most dives will have the possibility to see a shark or two.  For example, in the Philippines off the island of Cebu, you can see schooling Hammerhead sharks.

PHOTOGRAPHY

The focus on diving will revolve around photography. For example, the Aggressor fleet offers a seven-night liveaboard cruise with the name Jim Church Photography. On each cruise can have or two specialist photography instructors that pride themselves on helping everyone capture that awesome shot. This means help to set up, help underwater and also with a presentation in the afternoon or evening. If it's listed here you will be under the guidance of a Professional Underwater Photographer.

MUCK & MACRO DIVING

Muck diving gets its name from the sediment that lies at the bottom of many dive site. and will tend to be shallower. Although this does not sound glamorous, you will be amazed at the creatures and critters that live in this environment. Divers will look for rare nudibranchs, juvenile fish, frogfish and small, strange critters not found anywhere else. This type of diving is suitable for a passionate photographer, and this is where it falls into the Marco diving field. Having time and patience is the key, and to match this with a camera that can allow you to get close and detailed, means you can not only capture something unique but in vivid detail.

"OFF THE BEATEN PATH"

Several times a year a scuba dive liveaboard will do something different or it could be a charter. The vessel will tend to go into areas that are remote and not often visited. This could mean un-dived sites or exploration type diving. You will need to be experienced for this type of trip.

CHARTERS

Pelagic Dive Travel supports, promotes and helps to create exposure for marine conservation organisations & initiatives. Through the use of environmentally conscientious liveaboards, we take scuba divers into areas which are looking for just that. It could be through the use of local community reefs where we pay a fee or a direct approach where we use local guise to show us what the community is doing, Either way, we help bring scuba divers into these areas in a sustainable way which helps communities as well as an amazing dive experience. Your support for these areas is invaluable.

Remember to share your underwater videos & pics with friends!

WRECKS

As the Discovery suggests, here you can see more than one wreck or perhaps a specialised wreck. For example, the USS Liberty which is off the coast of Tulamben, Indonesia. It could be resort or liveaboard based.

EXPEDITIONS

Have you ever wanted to see something special? Here you can search for turtle conservation or shark tagging or perhaps a cruise for Minke Whales. Most of the trips listed here will be Liveaboard boats, as the name of the cruise suggests, what is named is the primary focus of the trip.

SPECIES

This is for marine species that you would like to see perhaps as a uniqueness. Yes, turtles are listed but if you after a trip to see the Komodo Dragon only seen in Komodo this is the area. Its where you could see trips to the sardine run or to see mating sharks in French Polynesia.

Perhaps its the annual migration fo the humpback whales through Tonga. One thing is for sure you will see a LOT of what you want to see!

CORAL

In today's diving world some areas have been affected by coral bleaching. In this instance, they are marine conservation organisations which are helping to rebuild the reefs. This is a link to them as well as to healthy vibrant corals or the hard or soft nature. Either way, spend time looking for the small critters mixed amongst the coral and get the best shot.
