marine conservation, responsible travel, scuba travel
We hope all divers are safe and well.
This is a trying time for everyone. As restrictions are being lifted look at supporting your local dive operators then, as international travel becomes available, start to branch out internationally.
The marine organisations & initiatives that we support are out there & need your help. Booking conditions have been relaxed, but each operator has a COVID-19 policy in place.
Please keep thinking of amazing dive trips & Discoveries.
If you have any questions on how to support or if you have an area you wish to explore please contact us at info@pelagicdivetravel.com
We hope to see you out later in the year diving!
We offer the organisations & initiatives a way for their stay's, liveaboards or programs a way to be found. Did you know there are hundreds of organisations out there? But did you know that most funds go back to another country and not to the actual community? If they have a way to support them great, if not we help create one. PDT assesses each on the work they do, local community support & how they support the marine environment. There is no point is supporting a marine organisation that has an office in an area with 70% going back to the organisation for the "admin" costs. If they are not transparent, don't have a clear commitment to the marine environment & to the local community, we do not support them.
My name is TERRY SMITH and I have been diving for the last 20 years. I did my Open Water PADI Course in Egypt and was hooked. So much that, I continued on and become a Dive Instructor in 2003. My enjoyment of travel has been linked with my passion for diving. I try to dive in every location I visit, looking for a new "Discovery" or experience of marine life.
The focus of PDT changed in late 2019 when I went out to Papua New Guinea to support the Coral Sea Foundation. PDT always had the core values of marine environment protection, awareness & education, but when I was in PNG I saw that more needed to be done. Not only was I lucky enough to be a part of the program teaching four ladies how to dive, but I also meet several local community leaders from the surrounding Milne Bay islands. I learnt that the shark population has declined so that the size of sharks is half of what it was for their fathers, as well as the steady decline of fish stocks. In such a remote area this is shocking. Shark decimation is from outside influences & these remote areas need a fish protection area ( LMMA's) so stocks can replenish. We have to do more to support these remote communities. This is why PDT focuses on supporting marine organisations & local communities.
