Remote islands
After flying into Alotau airport (just over an hour from Port Moresby), you will be greeted & transferred to the marina where the Undersea Explorer awaits. The vessel is a spacious Liveaboard dive vessel that belongs to the Conflict Islands Resort. After meeting your fellow divers & a safety briefing you will steam out into Milne Bay to reach your first dive spot.
Upon waking it's dive time to see Manta Rays! After spending the day observing these amazing marine creatures it's off to the Conflict Islands in the Louisiade’s Archipelago.
These islands are rarely visited & rarely dived and were named in 2021 as a "Hope Spot" by Mission Blue, as an area that needs to be protected for generations to come due to its diversity of coral & fish life.
The well-appointed Conflict Islands Resort is located on Panasesa Island, one of the 21 Islands that make up the atoll. Spend the next five nights in a beautiful Beachfront Bungalow with the island as your base. Each morning & afternoon head out on the boat with your local dive guide to experience the wonders of colourful hard & soft corals, fish life & turtles. Upon returning its time for your chef-prepared meals!
The Conflict Islands Conservation Initiative is also located on Panasesa Island not far from your accommodation. We will be lucky enough to be able to visit their turtle sanctuary which will have baby turtles & depending on the time of year, you may be able to see turtles arrive to nest (December Trip).
An unbelievable trip combining a liveaboard with an island resort topped off with diving which should be on every diver’s bucket list.
THIS WILL BE A DIVE HOLIDAY WHICH YOU WILL NEVER FORGET!
Located in the pristine waters of The Coral Sea, the Conflict Islands comprise of 21 untouched islands & boasts the most extensive biodiversity & coral reefs in the world. The 21 uninhabited tropical islands surround a spectacular lagoon and are currently under consideration for a World Heritage Marine Site. Among the group of islands, Irai Island has been found to have the second-best coral in the world with the most number of species noted in a single dive – a diver’s absolute dream!

The diving in Papua New Guinea is stunning.
You will travel through the Milne Bay Province, an area listed in the top three world sites, according to National Geographic Magazine. Assessments several years ago recorded nearly 430 species of coral, 950 species of molluscs & over 1,100 species of fish, many found nowhere else in the world.
The Conflict Islands was made a “Hope Spot” by Mission Blue & when you dive here you will see why. Blankets of soft & hard corals, of all colours, with macro life, fish darting in & out, schools of pelagics, sharks, Green & Hawksbill Turtles, everywhere you look are endless opportunities for amazing photos.
Water temperature is a comfortable 26C - 30C (78F to 85F) range all year round & offers 30m+ visibility.
"Every dive was 25m+ with only one dive with 15m due to the outgoing current from the Lagoon"- Terry Smith
All diving is from dive tenders, up to six divers with a local guide. Maximum depth is the recreational limit of 30m, with the best diving is in the 18-metre range.
With close to complete coral coverage in areas, diving is truly amazing! A real array of colours awaits you!
The UNDERSEA EXPLORER is a dive liveaboard built in the 1990s. With her previous service in the Northern parts of Australia, she is now based in the Conflict Islands, Papua New Guinea. The Conflict Islands are currently using her as a supply vessel, but don't be fooled, she is in pristine condition, excellently maintained, and fully equipped for this dive exploration.
The first two nights will be onboard transferring out to the Conflict Islands, diving along the way. ( The last night will also be spent onboard transferring back to Alotau. The normal transfer time is a 12-hour sail from the Islands to Alotau).
The vessel is geared for the scuba diver. The dive deck has plenty of storage, with freshwater rinse tubs for your cameras, & gear. A unique feature is the retractable dive platform, which allows the dive tender to get level with the diver for easy entry & exit.
Onboard, the saloon is a relaxing, comfortable area, where meals & snacks can be had. The TV/ media centre is a large forward area, with loads of seating to stretch out. It can be used to check out your photos, watch videos in the downtime, & has a large camera charging station. The dive briefings will also be conducted here.
Dining will be in buffet style with the dining area set upstairs. Or the option in the saloon in bad weather.
With the capacity for 24 divers but restricted to 12 divers, it means you will have personalised service, space to relax & a really comfortable relaxed trip.
One which you will never forget!
